THE WILLIS BUILDING
( Completed Jan 2007 )
The Willis Building located directly opposite the Lloyds building in London is the new European Head quarters for the Willis Company.
Sapphire supplied installed and coordinated the entire HV and LV infrastructure consisting of the following.
Landlords Main HV Switchboards
Fed from the two EDF supplies the Landlords HV board consists of vacuum circuit breakers fully automated so as to be controlled by the PLC system. This switchboard is inter-connected with the Tenants HV generator switchboard sited on level 24 of the main tower.
Transformer and Enclosures
Seven cast resin transformers are fed from the Landlords main HV board, two of which are sited on level 24 and are integrated into a package sub line up. Each transformer sits in a Sapphire enclosure and is equipped with inter tripping and over temperature controls interfaced with the PLC system and associated LV switchboards. Due to restricted height in the basement special cabling boxes were required to facilitate the cabling. The Modular Design of the Sapphire enclosures enabled this requirement to be satisfied.
Modular Switchboards
Five modular switchboards range between 1600A and 3200A are sited in the basement to form the hub of the LV distribution. The boards are constructed to Form 4.6 and fault rated at 100ka for 1 second. The boards incorporate main and individual breaker metering with a communications port facility for the BMS and PLC outstations. The modular switchboards also incorporate unique low maintenance bus bars joints. Thermo graphic windows are installed to facilitate safe thermal imaging. Special consideration was given during the design stages to ensure that the terminating of large parallel cables would be achievable.
Level 24 Package Sub Stations
2 Close coupled Package Sub Stations incorporating Cast resin Transformers and HV isolators are sited on level 24. These 2 boards distribute power to essential plant and have generator back up via the Life Safety switchboards which are in the basement. Again due to the nature of high rise developments accommodating large cables was essential. The modular switchboard design enabled special cable boxes to be constructed for the installation.
Level 24 Tenants HV Generator Switchboard
Sapphire provided the HV switchboard which is sited on level 24 for the distribution of HV generated power from the Tenants HV generators. The switchboard is inter -connected to the Landlords HV board situated in the basement. This board feeds the entire building as and when generated power is called for. The board is equipped with automated breakers to working as required by the PLC.
Dual Hot Stand by Redundant PLC.
Sapphire designed and installed the necessary hardware and software for the PLC system which controls the switching of power between the Landlords HV and Tenants HV during the event of a mains failure and the tenants generators being called on line. The PLC prevents any paralleling of the mains and generator supplies and can load shed if required. The design of the systems such that should there be a failure on the primary PLC hard ware then the a secondary PLC will back up the first.
THE 02 ARENA - WATERFRONT REDEVELOPMENT
( Completed March 2007 )
The O2 Arena has rapidly become one of the most popular of venues for sporting events and concerts. The reconstruction of the old Millennium Dome has been one of the most demanding projects undertaken by Sapphire Controls and called upon all of our previous 18 years of experience on past projects.
This project required Total Distribution Solutions for the Arena itself and the associated bars and restaurants forming the Waterfront Development.
Transformer and Enclosures 16 x Sub Stations
Sapphire supplied and installed 16 x 11kv to 400V transformers in Sapphire enclosures equipped with inter tripping and over temperature controls interfaced with the associated LV switchboards.
3 x Containerised Package Sub Stations
The design requirements called for Package Substations to be in their own contained building. To meet this request Sapphire designed and installed 3 x containerised package substations. The substations consisted of HV isolators, Cast Resin Transformers, and LV switchboards close coupled together to form a composite line up. These containers were then installed in the towers pods on the outside of the original Millennium Dome.
The construction of the containers utilised modular GRP sections creating the walls and roofs with pre fabricated steel floors which allow for entry and exit of cables. The containers were delivered to site in modules along with the switchboards and erected on site.
19 x Modular Switchboards
19 modular switchboards ranging from 2500A to 4000A are sited in the Arena to form the hub of the LV distribution. The boards are constructed to Form 4.6 and fault rated at 100ka for 1 second. The boards incorporate main and individual breaker metering with a communications port facility for the BMS outstations. The modular switchboards also incorporate unique low maintenance bus bars joints. Thermo graphic windows are installed to facilitate safe thermal imaging.
Sub Distribution Switchboards and Stage lighting
Sub distribution from the main LV switchboards is achieved via the same modular construction utilised in the main boards. Specific design requirements were met by Sapphire utilising the modular switchboard arrangements to incorporate Power Lock sockets for stage lighting and power requirements.
DATA CENTRE PROJECT AYLESFORD
Completing Dec 2007
This international UPS Supplier providing Data Centre UPS infrastructure chose Sapphire for the build and installation of the critical, essential and non essential switchgear to control and distribute the power in and around the Data Centre.
Utilising Modular Switchboard designs Sapphire have been able to construct switchboards which house the controls and chokes associated with the supplier of the rotary type UPS system.
Sapphire engineers had to work with the UPS design engineers to ensure that the controls systems in line and choke requirements were integrated in to the switchboard line up. The requirement to be able to bypass the chokes with an integral bus system was achieved by utilising the flexibility offered by the modular design of the switchboards. The resultant design is such that considerable space saving and installation costs were able to be offered to the client. The modular switchboards are designed and constructed for 100KA fault levels and segregated to form 4.6 standards.
The switchboards also incorporate a unique low maintenance bus bars system; plug in breaker technology and thermo graphic windows to facilitate safe thermal imaging.
The switchboards had been rigorously tested both at the UPS manufacturers works and on site. The result of the project is such that the UPS manufacture now endorses Sapphire as its preferred supplier of switchboards. |
